AdGuard DNS v2.16: Role-based access

Version 2.16 introduces role-based access for DNS accounts. Instead of sharing credentials, owners can invite members with individual roles, while admins benefit from seamless switching between multiple DNS accounts.

Adding a member

Types of members

DNS accounts now support three access levels. Ownership is fixed at registration, while admins and viewers are added through invitations. Roles can be updated or revoked at any time, and the number of members is virtually unlimited.

  • Owner — the account holder with full access to all settings and billing
  • Admin — a member who can modify DNS settings, manage devices, and invite other members. Best for system administrators or MSPs responsible for network filtering in organizations
  • Viewer — a member with read-only access. Can view settings and statistics but cannot make changes. Best for consultants or managers who monitor network activity and provide recommendations without modifying DNS settings

Why it’s useful for owners

You no longer need to share your email address and password to let others manage your DNS settings. Each member has their own credentials, and you have exclusive control over billing.

Why it’s useful for admins

For admins, the update simplifies work across different organizations. The admin role provides control over DNS settings, servers, and access. With a single login, you can manage several accounts and switch between them quickly.

To become an admin, ask the owner of the DNS account to send you an invitation.

How to invite members

  1. Go to your dashboard → Settings.
  2. In the Organization section, open Members.
  3. Click Add member, enter your colleague’s email address, and select the access type — admin or viewer.
  4. Wait until they accept the invitation, and you’re ready to collaborate!

Only owners and admins can invite new members. To use this feature, you need a Team or Enterprise subscription and a Business account type.
